ONE GALAXY AT A TIME: NAVIGATING THE ESPORTS UNIVERSE.
In typical quirky style, we took an out-of-this-world approach when tasked by long-term client Esports BAR to curate the programme for the 7th edition of Esports BAR at Cannes’ Palais des Festivals et Congrès from 11-13 Feb 2020.
Acknowledging the vast expansion of esports since Esports BAR’s inception in 2017, and its consequent tendency to overwhelm first-time investors, Hurrah developed a more focused approach to exploring esports: Breaking this year’s event programme into ‘galaxies’ waiting to be explored, organized by type of game.
Since 2017, Esports BAR has been the premier event for uniting endemic and non-endemic thought leader, but today the western market is now deluged with esports conferences, often repeating similar “insights” and formats. The choice to create orientations around individual gaming titles speaks more to the reality of the sector: Brands that invest in esports long-term often do so through one major gaming partner, and publishers themselves work to ensure they offer enough of a 360° experience to protect those partnerships.
